LG to launch 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio phone

Written by Peter Scott

No, seriously

In an apparent effort to differentiate its high-end Android phones from the rest of the overcrowded market, LG has chosen to adopt a rather strange form factor for its upcoming Optimus Vu.

The phone features a 5-inch IPS display, but it’s a 4:3 unit, not 16:10 or 16:9. The resolution is 1024 x 768 and the phone basically looks like a tablet toddler.

In terms of specs, the Vu seems to have everything covered. It is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. An 8MP camera is on board, along with NFC and LTE support is also rumoured but not confirmed.

As you can probably tell from the hard buttons, the Vu will ship with Gingerbread and it will get an ICS update later. Judging by the stunning pace of ICS updates offered by Google and phone vendors over the past few months, you can probably expect an update in 2023.
